What is a quality TDS level? What effect does it have on the water you drink?

What is TDS?

TDS stands for Total Dissolved Solids and serves as the total concentration of dissolved solids in the water you drink. TDS is made up of inorganic salts, including calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, nitrates, sulfates, and chloride — all either positively and negatively charged ions — as well as bits of organic matter. How does all of this get into the source of your water?

Man-made actions often influence the levels of TDS in your water. Agricultural and urban runoff can carry these solids into your water sources. They can come from your community’s sewage, the wastewater from industry manufacturing, and the salts used to de-ice roads.

The higher the TDS level, the dirtier your water.

Water will become more salty, corrosive, bitter, or metallic when TDS levels are higher. This also means there is an increased level of ions that affects the quality of the water. The lower the TDS level, the purer the water, which allows the body to more easily self-regulate and cleanse itself of toxins.

Based on a study by the World Health Organization, water with a TDS level

  • between 600-900 milligrams per liter is FAIR
  • between 300-600 milligrams per liter is GOOD
  • Less than 300 milligrams per liter is EXCELLENT

What’s the TDS level of Nirvana Natural Spring Water? 60 milligrams per liter

This places Nirvana beyond “excellent”, in a category of its own as an extremely high quality and deliciously refreshing bottled water. But, how does it have such a low TDS?

Nirvana Natural Spring Water is sourced from an untouched pocket of pristine wilderness with an awesome natural resource flowing beneath it, our two Ice Age aquifers that are five million and one billion years young. They naturally purify our spring water while keeping its consistency low sodium, high calcium, and bromide free. Our water gushes from our springs and we bottle it at the source so you can enjoy its pure, healthy, refreshing taste.
